Right to Roam

As featured in Central Saint Martins GCD Studio, these outcomes were developed in response to Right to Roam movement across England. This campaign fights for equal and improved access to land in England. It is is an ancient right to wander the countryside, rivers, forests and mountains yet the majority of the English countryside is out of bounds for most of its population. 92% of the countryside and 97% of rivers are off limits to the public.

With the environmental crisis we are facing it is more important than ever for people to develop a relationship with the natural world; how can we expect people to engage and protect a space that they can’t access? This issue may seem environmentally focused but at it’s core tackles elitism, race, biodiversity, mental and physical health etc.

Through a series of photographs, prints and posters raising awareness of the Right to Roam campaign, this project explores a mindset which embeds humans within nature, rather than reflecting upon ourselves as a seperate entity.
